Reviewed the specs regarding galvanizing vs painting sign structures. Caltrans requires galvanizing. However the specs also require painting. Karim spoke to Costa Mesa, they do not wish to enforce that spec. They will go with CT galvanizing only.

Oso Parkway

Spoke to Karl, they will mobilize to backfill RW2 tomorrow or the day after. Kenneth and Mike clarified a staging issue with them. Victor is working on getting approval for steel spliced piles where the batter will create a situation where driving might occur over rail tracks. Concrete splicing does not appear to be practical given our time constraints. Sacramento requires project specific analysis which would have to be provided by CH2M Hill. Neither CH2M Hill nor Sacto appears to be eager to go this route.

Irvine Approach Slabs

Met with Nabil Ruda, Bang Nguyen and All American Asphalt to discuss reopening the project. Grades are set. AAA will provide a new scedule and call surveyors to provide grades as shown on the revised project plans. Nabil will work on CCOs to provide days due to delays caused by grade revision. AAA intends to grind out 12" of AC and to place PCC, instead of removing all and replacing with rapid set. CT is ready to start.

for help with adjusting CIDH pile and fix for drainage pipe.
Crown Valley - Broke into top of 2' diam RCP drain pipe @ 19 feet deep, elevation 271.6'. Hole in pipe approx 1' by 2', rebar remains in place. 4.5' diameter drilled hole for east CIDH pile for sign 100 foundation. Cancelled pour, did not set rebar, covered hole with plywood and caution tape.

The drainage pipe runs along the outer edge of the pile on the northeast side.

It needs to be repaired and the sign either needs to be shifted or the pile shortened. We also need to determine the impact on the drain pipe.

Contractor's meeting for Oso
RW2 backfill next week. Discussed removing shoring box while backfilling. Karl (Ortiz) said they would pull the shoring box out a few feet at a time, backfilling as they went, for safety reasons. They will address the RW5 compaction problems at that time as well.

Victor will be able to provide an estimate of lead time for changing Abutment 1 footing design to concrete spliced piles or to welded metal pipe piles by next week.

Copies of Twinings reports of concrete core breaks on RW2 footing to Gary.

Copies of RR questions to Ortiz, to be copied to Victor.

Victor will review Bent 2 pile driving plan separately from Abut 1, to allow Ortiz to move forward on Bent 2 if it is ready before Abut 1.

John (Ortiz) will ask Foundation Pile for their time requirements as well as an estimate of costs for change in Abutment 1 footing piles.
